Narrativity’s proprietary approach makes us unique in the world of organizational and business consultancy. Our methodology is totally transparent, our approach is strategic and systematic and our results are quantifiable and measurable.
The Narrative Approach
Our Narrative Approach is a system dynamics approach. We apply narrative logic to business issues such as identity (character: values/qualities/competences/culture/brand/reputation) and strategy (plot: purpose/vision/mision/goals/objectives). We look at the totality of your business, your organization and your market. We then concentrate on the significant elements, their relationships and the dynamic patterns that form and shape your business. We then develop the strategies and interventions that transform your vision into business success.
Definition of “Story”
We define Story as a transformation brought about and undergone by the Hero. Hero is the embodiment of what “we” consider the best within us, among us and from us. Transformation is a deep change from one state of being into its opposite and it occurs both in the outer and inner world of the Hero. A Hero cannot change deeply without impacting his world. And a Hero cannot change the world without changing deeply himself.
“Story” and “Storytelling”
We further make a distinction between “Story” and “Storytelling”.
“Story” is an intangible cognitive construct and process simultaneously. It pertains to a complex process and construct of consciousness and intelligence that transforms information into coherent meaning and purpose. This operation involves a purposeful selection and exclusion of information, a coherent and clarifying organization of information and a logical and motivational connection of information.
It is hard wired in the mind according to universal patterns that are core to crisis development and crisis resolution. One could say that “Story” is the only model that captures change. After all, it is holistic, not analytical, dynamic not static and teleological, not causal.
Corporate Story
Obviously, developing a corporate story goes far beyond any traditional marketing or communication efforts. As a matter of fact, it precedes it. A Corporate Story integrates corporate identity with organizational design and business concepting. It gives meaning and purpose to who you are as an organization and what you do.
Storytelling vs. Drama
“Storytelling” refers to (narrative) communication in all its forms. Words, written or spoken information, can inform an audience. Imagery, symbols or metaphors, have the capacity to evoke emotions.
Only action, behavior, has the power to persuade and convince. But then we’re not really talking about “storytelling” anymore but rather about performing arts, about dramaturgy. Drama meaning “enacted story”; a story told through the actions of the actors. And that brings us back to the Narrative Approach. One could argue that an organization is an actor and that its actions tell a story. Who authors that story? We believe Organizational Leadership ultimately should be the Author of the the Story it writes with its Character, plots with its choices and tells with its actions |
